Interest Rates Changes in Cambodia on May 1st

Compared to our last check (which was on April 13th, 2023), two Micro Finance Institutions have made changes to the rates they pay for fixed deposits with a monthly payout. The most significant change was at Amk.

Amk

Amk has increased interest rates for short term deposits in Khmer Riel, the interest rates for 1 year and longer in Khmer Riel remained unchanged. The interest rates Amk pays on deposits in US dollars now matches those paid for deposits in riels. That’s an interesting change as before those rates were significantly lower (1 – 1.25 percent point!). For deposits of 1, 2 and 3 yrears in Khmer Riel, Amk now pays much more than their direct competitor in micro-financing, Amret.

LOLC

LOLC has increased the interest rates slightly for deposits of 1 year and longer. 1 year deposit in both Khmer Riel and US Dollar were raised by 0.25 percent point, for 2 and 3 years by 0.13 percent point. Before, the short term deposits in USD were slightly lower than their equivalent in Khmer Riel, they are now matching. LOLC remains the institution wth the highest overall rates for fixed term deposits with a monthly payout.

Others

Other institutions taking in deposits in Cambodia have not made any changes to their rates.
